One of the big advantages of ANSYS Workbech is its open architecture. Thanks to ANSYS ACT we can write almost any functionality in Python (buttons, simulation schemes, PrepPost procedures). In practice this tool allow us to save huge amount of time as we can automate most of repetitive actions that we have to take in simulation process (CAD preparation, setting up boundary conditions, postptocessing, etc.).

Another great thing is that we can write procedures for the specific verification codes like DNV, VDI, Hot Spot, Eurocode and others.

Among what we has written and implemented are the following:

  • Automation of simulation process: applying a specific boundary condition to all surfaces/lines/outlets etc. of a given name/characteristics
  • Individual simulation reports
  • Own buttons with custom functionality
  • New types of analysis

  • Postprocessing: extracting results that are required by a specific norm/code/design process

MESco Ship Tools i ACT Rule Loads for Ships

These are add-ons created for the shipbuilding industry. MESco Ship Tools for ANSYS SpaceClaim Direct Modeler allows you to work on native files without importing neutral formats.

The add-on contains additional options for preprocessing of CAD models: simplification, parameterization, automatic geometry generation.

The main features of the module:

  • automated geometry simplification,,
  • generating geometry based on model definitions in MS Excel,
  • Ability to work on native CAD formats (like Rhino),

The add-on is constantly developed based on trends, projects and customer suggestions..

ACT Rule Loads for Ships is an ACT extension for ANSYS Mechanical. Currently, extension includes partially implemented DNV-GL Rules Loads for Ships, Part 3 Hull, Chapter 4 Loads. It allows quick and easy consideration of equivalent wave loads (pressures and accelerations). Implementation of the entire chapter and other codes is in progress.

Both additions allow to save significant amount of time during initial design and geometry preparation. All MESco customers with an active TECS have access to add-ons for free.

Short presentation of the ACT: DNVGL Rule Loads for Ships


This extension was created for one of the biggest in Europe producers of windows and aluminum constructions. Add-on was written so that engineers could quickly optimize and verify the design based on the PN-EN ISO 10077-2:2017 code.

Main characteristics of the module:

  • Automated process of calculating and setting up boundary conditions in aluminum profiles for windows,
  • Setting up separate values of the initial conditions for calculating heat conduction coefficients inside the aluminum profiles.
  • Ability to assign user coefficients in material properties without having to edit Material Data.
  • All bodies on which this add-on is operating have their own object in Project Tree.

  • User can easily implement new formula/code to calculate any given design parameter that requires code verification

Above functionality allowed Customer to gain market advantage in the form of better optimized products with shorter development time.
